Terneuzen, 25 October 2024 – Anthony Veder, a well-known Rotterdam-based shipping company in gas transportation, is committed to safety and innovation. Anthony Veder is constantly looking for ways to improve the safety and efficiency of their operation, including through digital transformation. For instance, modern, portable ATEX equipment helps the shipping company, as these devices not only meet the functional requirements of process improvement, but also strict safety standards regarding fire and explosion safety. As a result, existing work processes can also be carried out in so-called gas zones on ships.

Orientation

Jesse Westerman, working in the Digital Development department at the time, outlined the needs of seafarers and found that a new range of ATEX phones offered the best all-round potential for process improvement. The devices chosen obviously had to be able to withstand industrial environments, but also offer capabilities for good audio and video connections, a sufficiently large screen for digital checklists, for example, and provide a robust platform for future applications.

Visit to ATEX Experience Centre:

To get a good insight into the capabilities of ATEX-certified devices, Anthony Veder visited the ATEX Experience Center. Here, they got hands-on demonstrations of several certified smartphones, and learned how these devices could help them in their operations.

Testing of ATEX equipment on board ships

After the orientation, the i.safe MOBILE 540.1 was tested on board several Anthony Veder ships. This included testing an MDM (Mobile Device Management) solution to ensure that the additional layer of software runs properly on the chosen phone. The testing phase was essential to ensure that the devices function properly in maritime environments, especially the sometimes limited bandwidth available.

Purchase and Implementation
